IBS Counselling

Support for the Mind-Gut Connection

Managing IBS Begins with Understanding the Whole You

Living with Irritable Bowel Syndrome can be exhausting—not just physically, but emotionally. The stress, discomfort, and unpredictability of symptoms often create a cycle of anxiety and avoidance. At Open Heart Counselling, we offer specialized support to help you break that cycle and take back control of your life.

Our virtual IBS counselling is designed to address both the physical symptoms and the emotional impact of IBS, using a mind-body approach rooted in compassion, science, and support.

Why Counselling for IBS?

IBS is more than a digestive condition—it’s influenced by your nervous system, stress levels, and emotional well-being. Therapy can help reduce symptom severity and improve your quality of life by supporting:

  • Anxiety and fear around eating or social situations

  • Chronic stress and symptom flare-ups

  • Feelings of frustration, shame, or isolation

  • Sleep disturbances and health-related burnout

  • The emotional impact of managing a long-term condition

We use evidence-based therapies such as CBT for IBS, gut-directed strategies, and mindfulness to help clients understand and manage the mind-gut connection more effectively.

What to Expect

Our approach to IBS counselling is practical, empathetic, and customized to your experience. You’ll gain insights into how stress and emotions affect your symptoms—and learn tools to regain calm, confidence, and balance in your day-to-day life.

Together, we will:

  • Identify triggers and patterns contributing to symptoms

  • Build coping strategies for anxiety and flare-ups

  • Reframe unhelpful thoughts and reduce fear around food or activities

  • Strengthen your emotional resilience

  • Restore a greater sense of freedom and control

Take the First Step Toward Relief

You don’t have to manage IBS on your own. If your symptoms are affecting your mental health, relationships, or daily routines, counselling can help you reclaim a sense of normalcy and peace.

Please note: All counselling services will be provided virtually at this time.

FAQs about IBS Counselling

Therapy addresses the brain-gut connection. By helping you manage stress, reframe anxious thoughts, and identify emotional triggers, counselling can reduce the intensity and frequency of IBS symptoms over time.
If your plan covers therapy with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), sessions may be reimbursable. We’ll provide detailed receipts for insurance claims.
No diagnosis is required. If you’re experiencing digestive issues alongside stress, anxiety, or emotional distress, we’re here to support you—regardless of whether you’ve received a formal diagnosis.
